Paloma Garcia-Lopez is a graduate of Stanford University with a B.A. in International Relations (1997) and an M.A. in Education (2000). She is a native of California and spent most of her childhood in La Paz, California, where her family worked closely with the late civil rights leader and American hero Cesar E. Chavez. She graduated from Santa Paula High School in Santa Paula, California in 1993 and since 1990, has volunteered over 100 hours per year to Future Leaders of America, a Latino youth leadership development organization. While at Stanford, she studied abroad in Santiago de Chile and Berlin, Germany where she was a business intern at the State Development Corporation (LEG) of Thueringia. In 1996, she was selected as an undergraduate fellow in the Stanford Center for Chicano Research. From 1999-2001, she was a U.S. History teacher at Santa Clara High School in the Silicon Valley. In March 2002, she coauthored her first book, Learning To Teach For Social Justice, Teachers College Press-Columbia University, along with Professor Linda Darling Hammond of Stanford University-School of Education, and Jennifer French. Recently, she worked as the Director of Development for Future Leaders of America, Inc. (FLA) for four years. In this position, she raised over $2 million dollars to fund youth-serving programs in the counties of Ventura, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Contra Costa, and Orange. In response to local demand from educational administrators and community leaders, she launched her own business as an independent consultant to better design, fund, and support educational programs for special populations.
